Coney Island

Potential

During the pandemic, I rode my bike from Downtown Brooklyn to Coney Island often. Months prior to the madness of Covid, I was in the midst of trying to reassemble a lot of broken things in my life that had left me feeling paralyzed. Then the pandemic hit and paralyzed the entire city around me. Desperate not to become stuck in the emotional inertia, I’d occasionally face south and start pedaling until I hit the water. I pictured the faces of people that I missed, some who I had lost years prior and thought about less and less as time passed, others who were far away and I couldn’t get to because of covid travel restrictions. I enjoyed pacing the boardwalk and imagining a life that was very different than the one I had. There was something wonderful about all that potential.
