“When was the last time you really felt joy?”

This shouldn’t be a difficult question to answer. Someone asked me this the other day and I was really surprised (and a little embarrassed) that I wasn’t able to answer easily/quickly. Every time I’d think I had an answer, I’d realized I was making a list of moments where I simply managed to not be uncomfortable. I got bummed out at how low I had set the bar for myself.

A lot of times, we seek comfort instead of joy because actual joy might often be in risky places. Or maybe some of us think we don’t deserve actual, legitimate, real, visceral joy.

I’m glad I got asked this question. I’m gonna ask myself this question on a regular basis.
