Happy Anniversary
About two years ago, my life was drastically changed simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The recovery from this incident has often been lonely, sometimes confusing. Confusing because this incident included some head/brain trauma. Lonely because it has been difficult to explain to others how much it has affected me. I constantly worry that I sound hypersensitive or attention seeking (and maybe both are somewhat true but also warranted - because difficult, painful things make us reach out for help).
I spent the one year anniversary of this incident alone trying to put together the pieces of something important that had broken. It sent me on a journey that compounded a lot of this confusion and loneliness, but for very different reasons. I am still trying to understand what happened but I’m collecting lessons and insights along the way the best I can.
This year, on the two year anniversary of this incident, I set out to spend that day somewhere safe and familiar and with someone safe and familiar. I thought it might help me bring closure to a lot of the turmoil of the last two years. It’s too soon to tell if my plan worked. But I’m sure the lessons and insights will continue, either way.
